Packly prints in four-colour process (CMYK) on all materials, including Kraft board. Four-colour process uses four inks: cyan, magenta, yellow and black.

In four-colour process there is no white ink: the white areas of the file are left unprinted and show the colour of the material.

On white paperboard, this coincides with the white of the paper.

On Kraft, however, it shows the natural tan colour of the paperboard.

For this reason, text, logos or details set to white in the artwork will appear in the colour of the Kraft once printed.

The tan background affects all colours. Compared to printing on white paperboard, colours on Kraft appear darker, warmer and less saturated. Light and pastel shades are the most affected: they contain less ink, so the colour of the material prevails. The uncoated, more absorbent textured surface of the Kraft also contributes to a softer, more natural result.

Graphics that leave room for the natural colour of the material render better on Kraft than those with large coloured surfaces. We recommend not entrusting important elements to very light coloured details.

Tip: If your project calls for pure whites or bright colours, you can choose a white-based paperboard, preferably natural white board, and insert a texture reproducing the look of Kraft into the file. Areas without texture will remain white. The feel to the touch will still differ from actual Kraft board.

Embellishments

Embellishments remain available on Kraft paperboard too, but need a little extra care. The surface of Kraft is not perfectly flat like that of a coated board: this natural texture means that gold or silver foil, as well as the raised spot varnish, will not appear as uniform and solid as on another material.
